Christmas is the time of year to celebrate and indulge in food, fun and a little bit of extra Christmas cheer. As is the Eikon tradition we thought it only fair to follow traditions of Christmas’ past and give our readers some extra eye candy before the big day arrives.
Welcome to Eikon’s 12 Gays of Christmas.
Gay 4 – Bernard Lee
Our fourth Gay of Christmas is very special as he comes from New Zealand and represented us so well against the rest of the world in the Mr. Gay World titles in Malta back in March.
Bernard Lee, or Bernie to his mates, won his way through to the Mr. Gay New Zealand competition after a stunning win in the Mr. Gay Wellington contest in 2015.
During the lead-up to the New Zealand final, Bernie was kept busy volunteering for the NZ AIDS Foundation (NZAF) and for the Love Your Condom (LYC) campaigns in Wellington.
He was also invited to be a part of their national campaign this year which saw him adorn huge billboards in the middle of Auckland.
Bernie has been very strong on what the title Mr. Gay New Zealand means to him.
“The main goal is not only electing a role-model that effectively represents our diverse rainbow community here but one respected by other nations.
“As a believer of the importance of social consciousness and an advocate for social voluntary work within & outside our LGBTIQA+ community, it means a great deal for me to voice the benefits of it to a wider community outside of Wellington while representing New Zealand on the world stage.”
We salute you, Bernie, congratulate you on a wonderful year and we look forward to crowning a successor in February. Merry Christmas.
